I am flying in/out of Rome for a 16 day trip through Italy. I'd like to visit, Rome, Venice, Florence (+ small tuscan towns) and would also like to add either some time in the lake district or the southern coast of Italy. I want to be careful not to try to do too much, also, any suggestions on places to stay for around $100 USD per night would be great!
you will be a little closer to S. Italy Amalfi coast(min 3 nights) however your $100 budget maybe a little low unless you stay at hostels.
I like Rome and points North better. Maybe you could go north visiting Eastern towns and cities, then come back down visiting the Western towns and cities. Stay in hostels where you can to keep your average lodging cost down. As a single, hotels aren't a good deal. Verona and Balogna are both good cities to stop for a look. Orvietto is a great town in Umbria, not far north of Rome. Sienna and Asissi are good too. San Gimignano was the most like my vision of a classic hill town, small and medieval; though touristy, it was worth the visit.
