Lake Como: What is the latest the water taxis run between bellagio and menaggio or varenna?

Hi,
It looks like the last ferry from Bellagio to Menaggio tends to be around 7:30pm or 8pm in May. Can anyone confirm how late the water taxis run (after the ferries stop)? I may be staying in Menaggio in May, but we tend to eat late dinners, and probably will be eating in Bellagio for dinner, we don't usually sit down for dinner before 8pm. So I am worried that we will get stranded in Bellagio.

Also, debating between staying at the Hotel Excelsior in Bellagio (garden setting pool), or the Hotel Du Lac (with rooftop infinity pool) in Menaggio. Does anyone have experience at either of these hotels, or have an idea which would be a nicer hotel? I feel like I am comparing apples to oranges!

I am a little hesitant to stay in Menaggio for fear about getting stranded after a late dinner in Bellagio, and also doesn't look like there is as much to do. Menaggio however would be easier on the back end, because on the last day we will be leaving our luggage at the hotel until we take an afternoon bus from Menaggio to Lugano.

Thank you in advance for any help!

Hello,

I would stay in Menaggio because you are leaving from there to go to Lugano. Unless there is some specific restaurant in Bellagio you have your heart set upon, why not just ferry back to Menaggio around 6:30pm and have a late dinner in Menaggio at 8:00pm? Stay in Menaggio and catch your bus to Lugano the next day.

In a previous post for Germany you mentioned an issue about traveling with someone who had issues with mobility. If they are on your trip to Bellagio, you should know Bellagio can be difficult to see as the town is built primarily on a hillside up from the water and there are a lot of stairs and inclines to navigate.

I haven’t been to Menaggio in May but in June there is a classical music concert on Piazza Dante every single night and the place was packed and it was hard to find a outside table at any restaurant. So there was much more to do than in Bellagio or Varenna. Menaggio is part of a more populated community so I wouldn’t bet that it has less to do than Bellagio.
