It's a very small village, it is unlikely there will be any taxicabs waiting at the station. At most there might be an empty taxi stand with a number to call.
Which hotel are you staying in? It's probably within a very short walking distance (maybe 10 to 15 max) from the station. Unless you have mobility issues, you can probably walk to it. Otherwise, if you are unable to walk, maybe your hotel can arrange a local driver to pick you up.
My mom (88 at the time) and I were in Varenna years ago, and we did take a taxi to out hotel but realized that we could have walked.
There was only one taxi driver at the time and he mentioned that he tried to meet the train arrival but he couldn’t possibly drive all the passengers to their respective hotels.
Thanks, everyone!
Probably a great question to ask your hotel. They may be able to set a taxi up for you. Safe travels!
We rented an apt in Varenna, and host offered to meet our train and deliver us to apt, thus giving us keys and a walk thru. When we left, we were able to walk ourselves to the train station even though it's really up hill and two of us had over packed
