Lake Como/Varenna Accommodations

Hello!
We're staying on Lake Como for 6 nights in July. Three nights' hotel already booked in Menaggio, now looking for 3 nights in Varenna. Would appreciate recommendations for flat rentals, as we're a family of 3 (parents & teen) wanting 2 separate sleeping areas. Already checked out the hotels, which I've found too expensive for what they offer (would've splurged for Hotel du Lac, but didn't get optimal choices even months ago). I thought it would be nice to see sunrise/set from both sides of the lake, but will gladly check out suggestions other than Varenna. We spent a day in Varenna a few years ago & vowed to come back for longer. Traveling by train, able to walk/hike (mobility not an issue).
Thanks!

We looked in Varenna but ended up reserving in Menaggio because we couldn’t find a three bedroom apartment in our price range. But we found a number of two bedroom apartments. My suggestion would be to look at both air Bnb and VRBO for apartments.

Marie,
Check out Albergo Milano, they have hotel rooms as well as a few apartments.

My mom and I stayed at Casa Gialla ( yellow house), a two bedroom apartment with a small living room and tiny kitchen.
I had to specify that we wanted to have access to both rooms for our 3 night stay. The apartment was comfortable, however it didn’t have a view of the lake.

If you want a lake-view apartment, check out their “Casa Rossa” (red house)

BTW, the apartment rate included breakfast at the hotel but that was back in 2014.

Enjoy your trip!

Thanks so much everyone. I'm in the process of checking out the ones I haven't yet seen. The views are GORGEOUS! But some of the prices -- eek! Always tough to know when to hit the SPLURGE button. Also wanted to check out the Brunate-Como Funicular -- is that a day trip type of thing? or are we better off leaving the mid-lake region and staying overnight near the funicular? We're flying out of Milan, so it's on our way down to the airport, just don't know how much time to allot, etc.

Thanks again, I so appreciate all feedback!

Marie - You can spend the night near the funicular before you fly out and take it to the top for panoramic view of the lake and selfies.

I'm staying in an AirBNB in Bellagio in April. It's spacious and has views of the lake for much less than a hotel. I've been so spoiled by the AirBNBs that I hardly look at hotels any more.
