Lake Como (trip planning)

Hello Everyone,

Great forum, it has been extremely helpful in planning past trip but stuck on this one. Getting analysis paralysis at this point.

-Overview-

Travel dates: (arrive) 08/06 - (depart) 08/12.

Location: Lake Como

Flight: Arrive: Milan - Depart: Zurich

Our plan is to visit the Lake Como region. Visit Bellagio, Menaggio, Varenna and less popular surrounding areas.

We would also like to take Bernina Express or similar from Tirano. Not sure if its best to make a day trip or continue on to Chur, then Zurich.

How would you go about planning this trip? Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

If you arrive in Milan and leave from Zürich, you get more variety. That is what I would do. For example, your route could be:

  • 6 Aug : arrive Milan, get to Varenna
  • 7 Aug : Varenna. Explore lake Como.
  • 8 Aug : Varenna. Explore lake Como.
  • 9 Aug : Varenna - Pontresina via Bernina Railway
  • 10 Aug : Pontresina. Explore Engadine region.
  • 11 Aug: Pontresina-Zürich via Albula Railway to Chur, stay in Zürich
  • 12 Aug: leave Zürich

Flight updated. Arrival to Milan 6:30pm. Departure from Zürich 7:00pm

For those who have visited the Lake Como region, what do you recommend B&B, Air BnB or hotel? Of those, how was your experience during your stay? Which do you recommend? Which should to stay away from?
