We are thinking of renting apt in Nobiallo near Mennagio. Any thoughts, pro or con? Another apt in in Lezzeno is available. Can't decide. Last one available, Urio Carate.
We will not have a car. which would be the best one to get around. thanks for any help.

Since you'll be on foot (and you don't want a car in these locations), you'll probably want to an apartment that is within walking distance of one of the public ferry docks. Reasonable walking distance will include the fact that you'll, presumably, have to walk the distance twice with your luggage, on arrival day and departure day. Your homework assignment is to use the public ferry website click here to find a location within reasonable walking distance of one of the public ferry docks. You can use Google Earth (a free download) to measure walking distances from and to various locations. I know from personal experience that Menaggio is a frequent stop for the public boat system. From the map (above site, but not from my personal experience), it appears that Lezzeno and Carate Unio are also boat stops. The 2 things for you to research further are: 1) how frequent are the boats to each location you're considering, and 2) how far a walk (with luggage) from each boat dock to the lodging you're considering. Wheeled luggage can be a bit of a rough go on the kind of pavements/walking surfaces you're likely to encounter in these villages.
