Hi looking for help we are taking a short trip milan- Lake Como-Zurich just researching is it better to go from Como by train to Zurich or hire a private car so we can stop along the way

Hire a private car?? Where do you want to stop along the way? You can just buy train tickets from Como S. Giovanni station to Zurich. If you want to take a more scenic route, specify via Goeschenen. Swiss trains run at least once per hour, You are allowed to hop off for a while and get back on the next train, as long as the journey is completed by the end of the day on the same route

Bernina Express! The starting point is in Tirano, Italy just over an hour by train depending on where you will be staying on Lake Como, then the Bernina Express through the Alps to Chur, Switzerland where you can switch trains to Zurich, about an hour + from Chur, many with no stops.
