Lake Como to Lucerne in a Day via Bernina Express?

Is it possible to wake up in Como and end up in Lucerne but to travel via the Bernina Express?

Is that too much of a marathon for 1 day?

Or what would you suggest? We are sleeping in Lake Como for a couple days but we have reservations to sleep in Lucerne the following day.

Thank you in advance for your advice.

Where on Lake Como are you sleeping? When is this happening?

We are sleeping in Como. The bottom left side of the lake when you are looking at a map.

If you want to take a scenic train ride, it will be much easier to take the Gotthard Panorama Express to get to Luzern, as long as it is not a Monday. Train from Como to Lugano, then board the GPE. This train is all 1st class and stops at Fluelen and you board a boat for the rest of the way to Luzern.

You can also do a similar route without panoramic cars in 2nd class and with out the boat ride by booking the Treno Gottardo from Bellinzona after a train from Como.

The trip looks to me barely possible (say, 8 hours on multiple trains) if you start from the west shore of the lake. If you start from the east shore it adds even extra hours. The correct itinerary to Luzern is the Gotthard, the Bernina is a huge (and very slow) detour.

The Gothard looks like an amazing option but it is on a Monday. What would you suggest since we are planning to travel on a Monday?

Take the Treno Gottardo. You can depart Como San Giovanni Station at 8:50 on the EC train. Change to the Treno Gottardo at Bellinzona. You can still take the boat ride to Luzern if you like by getting off at Fluelen and changing to the boat for the rest of the way to Luzern.

Do you know how I purchase the train and boat option? Are they individual tickets?
