Lake Como to Florence or Sienna

Hello,

I'm trying to figure out a logical order for my destination after the Lake Como area. I would like to go to Florence & Sienna and then onto Rome. To get to Sienna from the lakes region is it easiest to go through Florence? Further, to get to Rome is it also easier from Florence? Are there specific days of the week where Florence or Sienna should be avoided? I'll be in the lakes area on a Thursday & Friday so headed to either Florence or Sienna on a Saturday. Thank you,

Deborah

Florence is pretty much the doorway between northern and central Italy. Ya gotta get in through the door.

It is always crowded to very crowded. Those are great tourists sites. I would avoid them on the weekend as weekends are always busier. Florence to Rome is very easily since someone earlier counted something like 53 trains a day between the two.

Thank you. I'll be in Italy May 12 - 27 and am hoping slightly less crowds (and cooler temps) then. Are there certain days of the week where popular tourist attractions are closed in either city? I do have the guidebook for 2018 and am working my way through it still.

Many of the major sights in Florence are closed on Monday. Review your guidebook to assess how that might impact your itinerary. I believe there's a similar day in Siena and, although I don't recall which day of the week it is, your guidebook will tell you.
