We will be arriving in Venice, then on to Florence, Cinque Terra, and then the Lake Como area. What I am trying to figure out is how to then go to Salzburg, Halstatt, and the castle area (Fussen/Reutte). We have not yet determined where we will be flying out of for return trip, but thinking perhaps Munich. This will be a 3 week trip, so I'm thinking we can make this work. Any suggestions?
Hi Nancy,
We did the same thing in reverse. We drove from Munich to Fussen/Reutte to Salzburg to Halstatt. Then returned our car and picked up the train in Innsbruck for a short train ride to Milan. From Milan, there is a milk train that goes right into Varenna (Lake Como). You did not say how you're traveling but I'm sure the train can take you to all. Highly recommend Halstatt...was our favorite spot. Also, so loved Salzburg and the castle area is awesome too. Never made it south of Lake Como so we're doing the rest of Italy next year.
We drove a similiar routing but included the dolomites in Italy as it is on the main auto route north A22.If you have an xtra day or 2 include it it is gorgeous. Rick has recom in his guidebk. then on to
Fussen, Hallstatt, Salzburg then Munich airport.
If you can arriving in Rome (or sim) may be a better routing for you.
