Lake Como questions

Hello,

Does anyone have any experience staying in the smaller towns along Lake Como? I would like to know how easy it is to get from those small towns to the more well known towns, such as Bellagio or Varenna.

We are currently planning on staying in Moltrasio, but it looks like it's nearly 2 hours on the ferry to Varenna because of all the stops. Are there direct ferries or boats? Or would water taxis be an option? If anyone has taken a water taxi at Lake Como, could you please let me know how it worked and the cost?

I'm not sure if maybe we should cancel our AirBNB reservation and try to find something better located. When we made the reservation, we did not do a lot of research beforehand. The listing said it was close to the ferry so we thought it would be relatively easy to get around. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks!!

Moltraiso is in the southern section of the lake. You want to be mid-lake for the prettiest scenery and best ferry transportation. We have spent four vacations in Bellagio and have never used a car, always ferries. There is a transportation triangle from Bellagio, Varenna, Menaggio,, Cadenabbia, Lenno, etc.
Look at ferry map. You can do much better with a rental choice.

I agree with Suki, staying in a town on the midlake is ideal.

We chose to stay in Varenna mainly because it was so easy to get to on the train from Milan.
Once in Varenna, we visited some of the other lakeside villages via the frequent ferries, and enjoyed the amazing scenery.

Enjoy your trip!

Thank you all so much! I've started looking at places more centrally located. And thank you to the poster with the timetable! That was very helpful.

We are going to Varenna next week. Fly into Milan and train to Varenna.
Looks like rain, but I hope we can still get out and see things.

Stayed in Varenna on an RS Tour. We bought whole day passes for the Ferries and then rode the boats to many of the Villages around the lake, stayed as long as we wanted, then picked another village. It was a wonderful relaxing day.....
