Lake Como or Tuscany - Feedback Appreciated

Hello Rick Steves forum community,
My fiance and I will be traveling to Italy for the first time for our honeymoon this summer (end of June/beggining of July). Because this is our honeymoon trip, we are looking to do less go-go-go sightseeing and spend more time relaxing and taking in the Italian culture and scenery. We have decided on Venice and Cinque Terre because we think these two places will be fitting for our honeymoon.
We have a few more days to spend elsewhere, and we wanted to get some advice from more seasoned travelers on how best to spend our time. For our third stop, we are torn between Lake Como or somewhere in Tuscany. Which do you think would be the best third leg of our honeymoon trip? Is there a town in Tuscany that you would recommend? Would switching Tuscany for Lake Como make travel more/less complicated? Any opinions/advice/recommendations would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Sincerely,
Hope & William

Have you watched Rick's TV shows on the two? https://shar.es/1hMTny

That could help you with your decision. I like the theme of your visit. Leave Florence and Rome when you can visit off season and have fewer crowds and lower temps.

Since the fastest way from Venice to the Cinque Terre is via Tuscany (train change in Florence and Pisa), maybe Tuscany would make more sense than lake Como. If visiting lakes are important to you in your shoes I would opt for lake Garda which is close to both Venice and Verona (Romeo and Juliet).
The Cinque Terre are actually not easy to reach nowadays from any place. In the old days before high speed trains existed, the fastest way from Rome or Florence to Turin was via Cinque Terre and Genoa, so there where lots of Intercity trains from both Florence and Rome to the Cinque Terre (Monterosso) requiring no train changes. No longer. Now the route to Turin is via Milan.
Because of this, I would probably do lake Garda and Tuscany instead of Lake Como and Cinque Terre, but this is your trip and your honeymoon.

I agree with Roberto, but keep in mind that in late June/early July, the lakes and coastal towns are pretty crowded.

Thank you for the feedback. Anyone else able to cast a vote on Lake Como versus Tuscany?

If you like countryside, why not go to Saturnia, Toscana where you can bathe in the hot waters in the wild (or at the "terme") and there are wonderful villages nearby where you could stay. In these places you will feel the real scent of Toscana, moreover accommodation is not so expensive as the usual 'touristic' places.

The time of year that you are going will be warm in Tuscany. Be sure to get a/c regardless of where you decide to go. You will also want to have a car for either of the places that you are contemplating.

We stayed at Borgo le Terazze above Bellagio on our honeymoon and it was divine. We have been to Italy several times and I love both lake Como and Tuscany for different reasons. Both are very relaxing and you won't go wrong with either decision.

Tuscany is a big area. Have you decided on where in Tuscany you might go, and what you'd want to do? To do much in Tuscany usually requires a car, adding expense and hassle. Lago di Como is easy to do without a car, beautiful, and suitable if you only have two or three nights.

Logistically I think Tuscany works better but as mentioned you need to figure which of the numerous hill towns or famous cities you want to stay in Tuscany, how many nights you would stay and if you will rent a car or not.
CT and Lake Como are tiny areas in comparison to Tuscany which is a large region.

CT is going to be the trouble spot to get to or from with the rest of your legs and affect where you might fly into or out of. It definitely works better with Tuscany than Lake Como.
Why not try to figure out both a plan a and plan b and see exactly how the logistics and time in each place would play out.
Personally I think a Tuscan hill town would be a nice change of pace. Lake Como and Cinque Terre are quite different but in simple terms one is a Lake with hills around and mountain views the other is a Sea with hills around and views of villages on the edge of sea.

We love both but since you are going to be in Cinque Terre and Venice maybe go inland to Tuscany, we loved where we stayed at Villa VIGNAMAGGIO near Greve in Chanti, if you stay there do take the wine and sunset dinner tour well worth the money. But you do need a car to get here and enjoy Tuscany. If no car, then I say take the train to Como and stay across from Bellagio in Lenno as a lake front room with balcony is half the price of in Bellagio and you get to look at her twinkling lights at night, also the ferries go everywhere so you can go to Bellagio and see it and the crowds of tourist then come back to quiet Lenno and enjoy a meal at a local place with the towns people. Best wishes for a wonderful honeymoon.
