Lake Como or towns on the way to Venice?

We have an extra day after arriving in Milan before we hit Venice. Should we go up to Lake Como or do the towns on the way to Venice with our extra day....OR should we go straight to Venice and spend the extra time there? It's our first trip to Italy and would love opinions from those that have done it all there!

Lake Como is lovely and shouldnt be missed. Verona is a great town on the way to Venice. Why not visit the Lake and hit Verona on the way back from Venice?

Lake Como is terrific but for more than one day, min 2 or 3. Venice for an xtra day would always be my preference.
lucky you to have choice. you can't go wrong.

Lake Como is wonderful, but a bit out of the way for one night. Verona, Vicenza and Padua are all on the Milan-Venice train line and each is interesting in it's own right. Pick one of those, or use the extra day to explore more of Venice or to visit its neighboring islands of Murano and Burano.
