From Murren to Venice. Looking for a 2 night stop on the way by train. Stayed in Varenna years ago and it was nice. How does Lugano compare?

I love Lugano and have been there a few times, also been to Varenna...and as with all places each has its own charm. Had the best asparagus risotto I have ever had in Lugano. If you want a new place to visit I don't think you will be disappointed.

Lugano is much bigger than Varenna and has Swiss prices.

Kellie, You might also consider Stresa on Lago Maggiore, as it's a beautiful city with some interesting sights. In addition to the Borromeo Islands, you could also take a day trip to Locarno (CH) on the scenic Cento Valli Railway, returning by boat in the late afternoon. Happy travels!
