Lake Como must sees

I know that Rick says most travelers throw their itineraries into the lake when they get there but is there anything in Varenna or Bellagio that is a must see? We re staying in Varenna at the Royal Victoria and plan on taking the ferry to Bellagio for day. Thanks in advance,
Joe

Frankly we thought Bellagio over-rated and over-touristed with nothing but high-end shops. We did love Villa Balbainello fabulous, including the walk to it from the ferry dock. Also the castle above Varenna.

Take a boat ride around the middle of the lake, and down into the lower lakes.

Just enjoy the scenery and relative peacefulness.

I like Vila Babinello also. Nothing really major as a "Must See". We enjoyed taking a ferry ride and just jumping off in different towns and wandering around.

Ride the ferry to Menaggio.
Take the bus to Lugarno.
Ride the train to Como.
Enjoy the ferry back to Varenna.

This was a fun and easy way to enjoy the beauty of the area.

And sit on the lake at Il Molo and eat a #7 Lemon Sandwich.....ahhhh....it makes me hungry....

Good luck with dragging yourself away from the prosecco-breakfast buffet on the RV's view terrace.

While I enjoyed the Villa Melzi Gardens in Bellagio, I didn't care for the rest of the town. Varenna was much nicer. But do see them both for yourself; next time, I want to go to Mennagio as well.

Rick is right - the whole point of going to Lake Como is its lack of "turnstile attractions." As he correctly says, you go "to see how slow you can get your pulse" and "if relaxation's not on your agenda, the lakes shouldn't be either."
