We are 2 couples in 70's visiting Lake Como for 3-4 days in September, Looking for recommendations for apartment with kitchen, 2 bedrooms, balcony, view and walking distance from train station and ferry. Problem with many we've looked at is accessibility with many or steep stairs. Any ideas especially in Bellano. Air conditioning would be nice but not essential I presume for September. A B&B could work with breakfast provided if no apartment ideas. Thanks

Have you tried booking.com.? I use it for searches and then book directly with the property. Lake Como is still quite busy in September. I suggest booking as soon as possible.

I second the advice of booking early. We were in the Lake Como region in early May 2025, and it was a complete crush of humanity, at least in Varennna, Bellagio and on the ferries. Rick Steves guidebook describes Varenna as “sleepy,” but when we were there it was the polar opposite. It was probably my least favorite stop on our 17-day tour.

We had the same "crush of humanity" experience this past May 2025 in Varenna, and on the ferries. Varenna used to be one of my favorites places- sadly, no more.
Akagan, Note that Varenna consists of steep stairways all over town. Just so you're prepared. Have a great trip!

from what I saw, Bellano was less of what you describe in Varenna - seems like some other similar towns too - in case anyone reading has recommendations

We spent a day in Bellano in May 24 to visit the Orrido di Bellano gorge. It was really quiet there compared to Varenna and Bellagio. Of course Bellano is not as pictures as Varenna and Bellagio, but these places can be easily visited from there by train and/or boat.

Apartments in Bellano
1. Casa Giulietta
Two bedrooms, a lake view balcony, elevator access (!), and just a short walk from the Bellano train station and ferry dock.
The host is very responsive and the apartment is nicely modernized with a small kitchen.
