Hello everyone!
My wife and I will be in Lake Como on the above mentioned dates. We are thinking of staying in either Como or Varenna. Varenna would be our obvious 1st choice if we were going during the summertime, but as we will be there, it seems, right before things start to pick up for the season I'm not sure, and I'm hoping for some advise from you all.
From what I can tell, the weekend we are there is the weekend they switch from winter to summer ferry schedules, on Sunday specifically, the day after we leave. There does seem to be a high speed boat from Como to the mid-lake area early Saturday morning, and I'm assuming there will be some sort of mid-lake ferry service on that day as well. The reason we were thinking of staying in Como is that it is obviously larger, and we assume there will be more things open (restaurants, shopping, etc). Or do you all think that Varenna will be 'open for business' so to speak since the summer schedule goes in to effect on Sunday?
FYI, we fly into Milan on Friday, and it seems that both are very easy to get to by train, so that is not a concern. I guess our main concern is going to Varenna that early in the season and having most things still closed up for the winter. Any advise on this, or anything else, is very much appreciated, and thanks in advance.
