Lake Como lodging & sites

We will have only 2 days/2 nights in Lake Como area. Any suggestions on lodging or "must see" sites? Thanks!

Must see is Bellagio it is the most beautiful little town. I stayed at the Hotel Belvedere in Argengo which is right on the lake and is just lovely. It's a family run hotel. It's across the lake from Bellagio and was a lot cheaper than hotels there. If you stay in any town on the Lake it is really easy to get around by the ferry but watch the timetable as we almost got stranded in Bellagio by missing the last ferry back.

I just spent two nights in Como last week. I stayed at the Best Western Continental Hotel (near the train station) and took a day cruise to Bellagio. The boat took 1.5 hours and is very beautiful and relaxing. I then spent about 4 hours exploring.

You could take the "fast boat" back (hydrofoil) to save time. Do watch the schedule, the boats run every few hours.

Check out Alberghetto La Marianna - a cute little hotel that looks across at Bellagio. I haven't stayed there yet - I'm going in October. The reservation process was very pleasant. They have a nice website and received great Trip Advisor reviews. A bargain too. Just a short walk from the ferries.

We stayed in the metropole bellagio. A friend shared that there are most restuarats here and the town is open longer than other smaller towns. THis was not an expensive hotel and the only hotel actually on the water. the others are behind the road. We had a corner room on the water, left our windows open all night.....Was a great location as the ferry came in on one side, and other tours on the other side of the hotel......and the steps out the back literally go up the shopping area of the town...We loved Bellagio.....and lake como. I recommend taking a private tour in a boat with a guide. WE did and had hte most amazing day.....Some of the Villa's require you only go with a historical guide...such as Villa Balbonella (spelling) which is not to be missed. There is also an island in the middle of the lake....where they have one restaurant and a view that is not to be missed! mwa45@mac.com
