Lake Como in October?

We were planning 2 days on Lake Como Oct. 4-6. I have heard it will most likely be cold and the average temp is a high of 52, low of 42. Is this too cold to have fun there? Where to spend 2 days after Cinque Terre on our way to Venice for our last two??? Thanks!

On our first trip to Italy, we spent the last part of it on Lago di Como in early October. We went from 90 degrees in Positano, to snow capped peaks, frosty breath, and wearing long underwear, long sleeve shirts, sweaters, and jackets in Varenna. We were cold. That being said, we didn't regret it at all. It was beautiful, we learned a lot, ate well, and would recommend Varenna to all... even in October!

Wow! I'm just not really wanting to pack for cold weather because it takes more room. We will be in Cagomli (north of Portifino) right before Lake Como. Will the weather there probably be warmer??? Thanks so much!

Debbie: We stayed at Lake Como in early October 2007. It was cool (not cold) in the morning and evening and very pleasant during the days. It was too cool to have breakfast or dinner outside - but we comfortably ate lunch and had coffee and drinks outside in the afternoon. I wore a sweater on the ferry to Bellagio - but I took it off when we were in town. We had a great time there. If you haven't made your hotel reservations - I highly recommend Alberghetto La Marianna in Cadenabbia (direcly across the lake from Bellagio). The hotel is charming and well run. The prices are very reasonable and the restaurant is WONDERFUL! Ty serves a very limited menu that is delightful. Have fun.
