Three of us traveling from Milan by train to Lake Como for three nights. Looking for hotel or apartment with view of Lake, and central location close to boat/ferry rentals. Also, recommendations for day tripping from there.

We stayed at Albergo Milano in Varenna a few years ago and loved it. It's highly rated on Trip Advisor and I would stay there again in a heartbeat. You need to book way in advance though, especially to get a room with a view of the lake. We had a room with a full frontal view of the lake and it was magical. I loved waking up every morning, throwing open the doors to our balcony and watching the activity on the lake! Our room itself was very comfortable and clean. As for Varenna vs Bellago, Varenna wins out for me! I loved Varenna; it's a small, quaint town and while I enjoyed visiting Bellago as a day trip, I loved returning to peaceful Varenna at the end of the day. Plus, you can take the train to/from Varenna whereas if you stay in Bellagio, you have to take a ferry from Varenna to Bellagio. For us, it was more convenient to stay in Varenna and I long to return! Have a great trip.
