I live in Torino, and i want to go to Lake Como. All of the places are extremely expensive for a night. I am a student and cant afford more than 50 euro a night. Can I go with my friend for one day and feel like I have seen enough. Or does any one have suggestions on places to stay!! Thank you!
Micki,
Given the travel time from Torino, one possibility you might consider would be to use Mennaggio for a "home base" to tour the lake. Rooms at the La Primula Youth Hostel there are about Eu$16 per night, which is quite reasonable.
For travel to Menaggio, the route that I'd use would be train to Milano Centrale and then train to Varenna (about 1 hour). From the station at Varenna-Esino, walk down the hill to the Ferry dock and take the boat to Menaggio.
While you could stay in Varenna, the lodgings will be more expensive. You could have a look at the Orange House B&B or Albergo Olivedo to see if they fit your budget.
While in that area, a day trip to Bellagio would be nice. It tends to be a bit "pricey" (you'll see examples in the jewelry stores along the lake), but for day touring it's an interesting place.
Happy travels!
The Tres Rose hotel in the village of Nesso (halfway between Bellagio and Como and accessible by bus) is only €55 for a double...
