I have a party of 4 arriving on May 5 for 3 days in the Lake Como area and I am looking for suggestions on hotels or B&B. Plus the best way to travel from the airport to the lake area.

It would help if you could provide more specific information, as that will have a bearing on the directions. The "Lake Como area" has many possibilities, so it would help to know which town you would prefer to stay in?
The method I'd use travel from the airport to the lake area would be the Malpensa Shuttle to Milano Centrale, and then train to whichever town you'll be staying in. Note that some towns do not have convenient rail access (ie: Bellagio) so that's why further details are required.

I think Varenna is a nice place to stay & it's easily accessible by train. From Varenna, you can take the ferries to the other mid-lake towns (Bellagio, Menaggio, etc). Varenna is very quaint and has a nice lake-front promenade. We stayed at Albergo Milano & had a lake-front room with a balcony. The hotel was wonderful & I would definitely suggest it. Have a great time.

Albergo Oliveda! great rooms, great view, great food, very matter of fact hostess. We stayed for 2 nights in Oct 08, and loved it. I will always stay when we revisit. Enjoy, Jeff

We stayed at Albergo Milano...good rooms, great views. Be ready to walk up and down stairs and hills.
