Lake Como and Mosquitoes

I will be in Italy in September - spending a few days at Lake Como. Never been in this area before. Is there a need for mosquito repellent? Thanks for your help!

There is no need for mosquito repellent in September in Lake Como. I've been there the past 2 years - once in August & once in September - and there were no mosquitos.

Traveler,
My experience was different than Lourdes’.

I appear to attract mosquitos, so had a few bites when we visited Varenna, Lake Como in October.

I didn’t wear insect repellent but did use a mosquito repellent (electric) diffuser in our apartment at night.
Just make sure you close your hotel/ apartment windows before dusk.

Enjoy your trip!

If it is any consolation, we're covered with them too in Wisconsin.

The accommodation you choose will play a role. Areas with trees and lush gardens will always draw more mosquitos. I don't know about Lake Como because I've always stayed by the ocean in italy, but I choose to stay on the water where there is less vegetation and more breeze.

I was in Varenna in September 2016 and never saw - or felt - a mosquito.

I think past experience is no guide, as the over riding factor is the current and recent past weather. A long, dry summer will keep the skeeter numbers low, but a spate of very wet weather, followed by warm weather will bring them out in droves.
