I stayed at Hotel Bellagio last May. 160 euro a night, nice place, great view.

You could try Hotel Du Lac in Menaggio, a ferry ride away from Varenna or Bellagio. We stayed there a few times during the high season, July, and last time the rate was 140. Euros plus 10 Euros for parking. It is right in the square of Menaggio. It is very nice and clean.

Have you tried either www.olivedo.it/eng/index.html or www.centrohotelslakecomo.com/royal_victoria_varenna/homepage.html in Varenna? One of them should have vacancies, but try to reserve something soon.

Bart, we stayed in RS recommended Albergo Olivedo in Varenna, right on the water with terrific breakfast and dinner in '05 and loved it. We'd stay there again in a heartbeat.

We stayed there last summer and both the Hotel Victoria (english style, overlooking the lake) and the Villa Cipressi
We would stay at either again. The latter has a more private villa feel and the former has a neat turn of the century English nobility holiday hotel feel
