Having a tough time finding reasonably priced (-$200 per night) accommodations for a family of 4 somewhere on LakeComo for Aug 11-14. We’re not driving, so train/bus access is necessary.
August 10 through August 19 is possibly the busiest week of the year at any lake, mountain, or seaside destination in Italy. August 15 is also a national religious holiday observed by every business. Practically all Italians will be vacationing in some cool location escaping the heat of the cities.
Go to a search engine like Trivago. As a destination search put down any of the 3 main towns on the mid lake: Bellagio, Menaggio, Varenna. They are all a short distance from one another Via frequent boat ferry. Varenna on the eastern shore is served by train service from Milan, but it’s very small and extremely popular, therefore you might have better luck with the other two, which offer more accommodations. As I said, they are all minutes away by boat. If you can’t find anything in all three, try TREMEZZO or LENNO or near VILLA CARLOTTA (a historic Villa). These 3 locations are also in the midlake and have frequent boat service to the other 3.
Thanks Roberto, I’ll keep looking:)
