I plan to arrive at Lake Como on the 16th of September. Is there a place near the train terminal where I can leave my luggage so I can go go to the funiculare?

I'm not familiar with any luggage storage options near the station. Will you be staying in Varenna? If so, you should be able to store your luggage there. Otherwise, maybe reach out to Hotel Olivedo in advance to see if they may offer something. There is a cafe at the station, so maybe they could help. Also, around the corner of the station is something that comprises ticketing and information. It is not open all the time. They could be of assistance.

LAKE Como is a big place ringed by many cities/towns. Will you be arriving in the CITY of Como, and is the funiculare you're referencing the one from the town of Como to Brunate?

I was guessing it was the old funicular line that is now a hiking route accessible in Varenna.
