Lake Como (Varenna) Accomodations

I have been looking (via R.S. Italy Book) for a room for my husband and I for early September, and not having much luck. Does anyone have any suggestions of places you have stayed that might have a view terrace that is not in his book?

Check out Hotel Eremo Gaudio. You can go to tripadvisor and see pictures from their patio/eating area. Every room has a view of the lake. We stayed there in April '09 and loved it. Good luck.

It seems Rick's book lists most of the places in town. So Albergo Milano is fully booked? What about Eremo Gaudio? It is above the town, but our friends really liked it.

I just checked Hotel Eremo Gaudio via tripadvisor and it says no rooms, but I found the website and sent an email. Albergo Milano is not available for our dates. I have emailed every place in the book and so far I either have not heard back or nothing is available. I just wanted to get some options going in case nothing comes up.

Cindy, I'm assuming that you've checked all the listings in the book? One thought that comes to mind is that some of the places will only now be "gearing up" for the summer season, so they may only have limited staff to respond to E-mails. Did you try This Hotel? If so, I'm surprised they haven't responded. You didn't say what type of a budget you're working with, or whether you prefer more of a B&B or a conventional Hotel? You might also try This Hotel (I can't recall if it's listed in the Guidebook?). Happy travels!

Cindy, The perfect place would be "Aunt Angelina's"! www.varennaflats.com. You will be on the site of Marilena who rents houses....she will direct you to her Aunt if you only need a few nights. What a wonderful sweet woman and the room is great with a large bathroom. Angelina will make your trip you won't be sorry.

Thanks everyone for the great ideas. Since we are in the planning stages, I rearranged our trip to have Lake Como toward the end of our trip instead of at the beginning. So that opens a few doors!!
