Lake Como

We will be in Lake Como for 3 days in July. Any must “see and do” as well as any restaurant recommendations would be greatly appreciated. We will be staying at the Grand Hotel Tremezzo. Also, any thoughts on a private boat with guide or simply taking the ferries to the various stops?

Many here simply take the ferries, that's what I've done.

That should work fine

I just got on the regularly scheduled boats and I was happy. Happy? Ecstatic, more like.

debating lunch versus dinner at villa d'este. Apparently, they will not allow people to just come see their grounds and gardens without eating there. We hear it is spectacular and worth visiting.

Have you been to lake Como before? The Grand Hotel Tremezzo is pretty removed from the villages. It’s along a very busy road. You will need to either walk along that busy road or drive to restaurants. Just curious what caused you to choose this location?

Take a boat ride and tour Villa Balbianello! Spectacular Villa, immaculate grounds and one terrace was used in the Star Wars movie where Anakin fell in love. the other terrace was used in James Bond Casino, where he recovered.

Truly a wonderful place to see. Also rent a boat for 4 hours and cruise the lake at your speed, we did that too.

Take the ferries to see and walk around the other lake side towns. We Stayed in Bellagio. Walk the back streets and get lost!

We loved Lake Como. Enjoy!!

We would like to tour either Villa Carlotta and/or Villa Balbianello. Is one “better” to visit than the other? If we have time, we can obviously try to get to both. Do we need to purchase tickets ahead of time given the summer season? Can we get to both of these via ferry? We will also have our car and have the option of driving.

Also, we would love to visit Villa d’Este...is is true that you need to dine there if you are not a guest of the hotel in order to walk the grounds?
