My wife and I are going to Lake Como in May and am wondering any good places to eat lunch/dinner in Varenna or Bellagio.

Il Cavatappi in Varenna. Make certain to make a reservation. Even though it may not be crowded, Mario (owner and chef) insists on reservations. Tiny place. 8-10 tables at most. He is a wine authority so if you love wine and wish to learn more, he's your guy. Loved the place and still think about Mario's Salad. Also in Varenna the dining space at the Hotel Milano where Egidio and Bettina prepare wonderful dishes. The patio is a fabulous spot for a sunset dinner. In Lenno, Giocomo's Trattoria. Finally, In Colico, La Padella at the top of Lake Como. Country cooking at it's best. Enjoy your visit.

I really enjoyed the dinners at Albergo Olivedo in Varenna. If the weather is nice, guests usually sit outside, facing the lake (close to the Ferry dock). As I recall, the Pasta was excellent!

How soon should these bookings be made? Before you leave or when you get there, taking into account our stay is only for four days. Thank you.
