We are considering Lago di Bracciano for a day trip from rome. I don't see any mention of it in Rick's book and am wondering if anyone has visited there.

It's a beautiful volcanic lake with lush vegetation and the imposing Odescalchi Castle overlooking the town (where Tom Cruise got married to Katie Holms). Without a car, you can get to Bracciano by hourly commuter train from Roma Ostiense Station, but you really don't need more than half a day.
