Lago Bracciano

We are considering our first night stay into Rome in March at Lake Bracciano to see the Odescalchi Castle. Has anyone stayed there? Is it worth an overnight visit? The Villa Clementine looks like the best place about a mile from the castle, but so far there has been no response to my reservation request.

Bracciano is a nice area. We go to the Lake often in the summer as it was close to us when we lived on Via Cassia. I'm not sure if it's worthy of a overnight stay, especially in March. June or July, yes I would think you might enjoy the "beach" atmpshere. But in March the weather can be erractic.

I would see Bracciano as a day trip which you can definitely enjoy. Just head up SS2 from downtown Rome. It's a fun ride along the water once you get up to the Lake. It's a beautiful Lake that serves drinking water to much of Rome... no "motor boating" is allowed... and it's often quiet and placid.
