My husband and I will soon be in Venice for the second time. As a former theater teacher, I have always wanted to attend an opera at LaFenice, but my husband has zero interest in the opera or dressing for it. I am therefore going by myself. My husband would like to find a bar or equivalent where he could wait for me until the opera is out at around 10 PM. He is concerned with me getting home on my own. Bars are not the same in Italy as in Missouri, however. Does anyone have a suggestion of something close to the opera house that might fit the bill? He is a beer drinker rather than a wine lover ( that's me). I have no qualms about getting back to Caraveggio by myself, but I know he would worry.
There are many wonderful restaurants next to La Fenice. I suggest Vino Vino.
If you decide that you would rather move your accommodations than have him wait at a bar, we stayed at Hotel Ala which was very handy for me to walk to La Fenice by myself. My husband enjoys the opera as much as your husband.
I'll agree with the suggestion of Vino Vino. We had dinner there before a performance at La Fenice (no need for one to wait), but it is very close and very pleasant. Not sure about the beer menu, though!
Birra Italiano, 4.50 EUR per 12 oz glass (or bottle) at Vino Vino. Otherwise, the Hard Rock Cafe is about 3 blocks away behind the Piazza San Marco.
Do you mean Cannaregio instead of Caravaggio? Great neighborhood.
That's what I meant. I love the area even if I can't spell it on an Android keypad.
