What will be open in venice on may 1, 2009? Are vaporettos to the islands/lagoon available? Is it basically a lost day?
Public transportation should be available of course (may be limited), but the churches will most likely be closed and perhaps some museums. I'm sure the more touristy things will be open, but I wouldn't book a trip to Murano, Burano or anyplace else unless I knew anything was going to be open when I got there. I was in Rome Labor Day last year and some museums were open while the Colosseum, Forum, etc... were closed. It's a crap shoot. I used that day as a general sightseeing day. A lot of businesses were closed, but there was a bit of a festival atmosphere, because Italians have a day off and are out at play.
