Hi All!
As part of our Italy trip, my husband and I will have a rental car (AutoEurope) that we will be driving from Rome to Tuscany and plan to drop off in La Spezia at the downtown office, 74-76 Via Fratelli Rosselli. From there the plan is to go via train to Santa Marguerita. Can anyone provide insight into the process on the drop off and train? I'm not sure of the proximity of the drop off and train, and if we need to make train reservations. If so, which train? I'm sortof hoping we don't need reservations since our ETA and itinerary isn't firm from Tuscany to LaSpezia.
Thanks in advance-
Sue
Which car agency?
AutoEurope is the broker
Are you renting from Hertz, Avis, Budget? Not sure which agencies are in La Spezia.
You will need to know this for pick up as well
The agency name should be right on your contract
Be sure to check open/closed hours
Most close mid day, noon on Saturday
Use Google maps to determine distance between car agency and train station
The staff at agency can call for a taxi if needed
Drop off is usually fairly quick
There are regional and IC and fast trains for that route
Regionals do not need reservations, do not sell out and price never changes so no need to purchase in advance
Looks like the regional option also takes less time
Use trenitalia official website
https://www.trenitalia.com/content/tcom/en.html
Use Italian station names
La Spezia Centrale
S Margherita* Ligure-Portofino
*Note spelling
The Avis drop-off is close enough to the train station to walk if baggage is light or if you drop it off at the station first. For the other rental locations you'll want a taxi. There's general information and a link to a map with the rental places marked here: https://www.apathtolunch.com/2015/11/where-to-rent-car-from-cinque-terre-la.html The article is not new so double check the info.
Thank you both! Very helpful information. We're dropping at Avis on a Thursday, so it sounds like it should be fairly easy and close proximity to the train station.
