Can somebody answer this question? I am trying to buy my tickets on the internet before I leave for Italy, but I am confused as to which station to get off at. I am going to catch the train from Florence SMN and would like to go the the Cinque Terre, but I do not know which La Spezia station to choose from , La Spezia Centrale or La Spezia Main??

You cannot buy your tickets on the internet. The Trenitalia site rejects all US credit cards. Period.
Kent, is that a new development? I, and some others, have been able to use a US Visa on the Trenitalia site in the past. I know lots of people have trouble but I didn't realize it was a blanket denial now?
Debra: Yes, Visa Verified has stopped working. The latest word I have is as of Aug 1st from Larry, one of our train gurus, who reported that Visa Verified no longer works and that is now appears to be a blanket rejection of US credit cards at the Trenitalia site. At least no one here has been able to do it.

You will need to choose La Spezia Centrale. If you want to book your tickets in advance you can use Rail Europe http://www.raileurope.com/index.html. Not sure if they have the best price but they will deliver your tickets by FedEx and will arrive in 2 days or less from the time you book on line.( I did this for my May,08 trip to Italy)
I was in Italy in May/09.... I just booked my tickets at the train station either the same day or the day before without any problem.
