Hi,
I'm searching for auto rentals from La Spezia to Siena for next May 30, 2019. I'm not getting any results from La Spezia but am getting results from Lucca and Pisa. Is it too early or are autos not available from La Spezia?
Europcar, Hertz, Avis Budget are all present in La Spezia.
I generally rent through a consolidator:
www.autoeurope.com or their affiliate www.kemwel.com. They merged but prices may differ, so check both.
They work with the major car rental companies mentioned above. Be aware that the La Spezia locations close Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday. So if you rent on the weekend keep that in mind. Only airport locations (like Pisa) would stay open on weekends.
May is probably too far ahead. I generally rent no more than 1 to 2 months ahead using the above consolidators. I would wait till the new year at least.
Thank you Roberto. I'm just trying to get an idea of pick up and drop off locations and general pricing, but aware that can change.
By the way, the Feisole restaurant you referred was amazing and we still speak of it. :)
Also, would dropping the car off at Siena train station coming from Rapale, and taking train to Rome be advised, or would you drive through Umbria and drop off at Orvieto and train to Rome?
Thanks.
I forget, we're picking up on Thursday and dropping off on Tuesday so all good on days. 😉
I just found it that I can drive a little further to Chiusi Chianciano Terme from Rapale and take a nonstop to Rome Termini. Now I need to find if I can drop off a rental car at Chiusi.
Europcar, Hertz, Avis-Budget all have offices at Chiusi Scalo (near the Chiusi-Chianciano train station). Chiusi Scalo is at the bottom of the hill (Chiusi on top of the hill).
Whatever you do, do NOT rent a car from Avis in La Spezia. They are rude, incompetent & totally ignore what you think you reserved. I reserved a BMW small wagon & confirmed by phone twice that I would be able to get that car last month. However, when we arrived at their office in downtown, we waited in an office that had no chairs, no A/C & was full of other customers. Ahead of us were an Italian couple who were returning their car & the customer service man yelled at them & they got into a huge argument with lots of yelling back & forth. Not speaking Italian, I have no idea what was said. Then the lovely young mother from Edinburgh, Scotland who was ahead of me came back after being shown her car because the man would not do a walk-around the car & note the scratches, dings, etc. Because the car had a broken speaker, she insisted he sign a statement to that effect & he did so very rudely. When my turn came, he took my reservation papers & then ignored them. The car he took us to was a Renault SUV that was filthy inside & out & he had the nerve to tell me it was a step-up from a BMW because it was bigger! We didn't want a big car & certainly not an SUV but we were told to "take it or leave it" in a rude & bored manner. It wasn't full of gas & drove like a truck, which is what I wanted to avoid , having a bad back. There was trash in the car & the GPS didn't work. It was the worst experience in renting a car that I have ever had in all of my 72 yrs & I've rented cars all over the world but nothing like this! I will NEVER use AVIS again & I will broadcast my experience as widely as I can.
another first time senior citizen poster with lots to complain about.
I will broadcast my experience as widely as I can.
will that make you feel better?
