La Sensa annual event in Venice

Has anyone been to the La Sensa event in the lagoon in Venice, which occurs on Assension Sunday each year? (Many boats of all sizes cross the lagoon from San Marco to the Lido, and a golden ring is thrown into the water by the bishop to symbolize Venice's marriage to the sea.)
I am wondering whether it is as great to witness as it sounds, and whether anyone who has been there would suggest watching from San Marco, where the boats assemble, or from the Lido, where the ring ceremony happens.

I haven't been to that specific festival, I am usually there for the Redentore in July. The waterside walk around Piazza San Marco should be perfect for you. You'll be able to see the boats better. The ring throw - not much to see by the sound of it. Question: is the ring throw at Lido or Ponte Rialto? That's an honest question because something in the back of my mind nudged me about it.

At any rate, Venice certainly knows how to throw a festival!!!!

Remember that you won't be the only one wanting to see it. The crowds will be huge. Arrive early if you can. Good luck.
