La Scala Ticket Purchasing Secrets

I have searched the forum for information regarding purchasing tickets for La Scala and I have discovered the tickets sell out quickly. I am contemplating extending my stay in Milan by a day to catch the premiere of Turandot on May 1. Tickets go on sale February 19th @ 9am.

Does anyone have tips on how to ACTUALLY get tickets on http://www.teatroallascala.org? Or, is there a different web site or even a reliable person in Milano to purchase for me? Etc. I am a planner and do not want to wait until the day of to see if there are any remaining tickets available.

Thank you in advance.

Go to the official LaScala site where it tells you in English exactly how to buy tickets on line when they come on sale. It is important to get on line when they go on sale and not wait until you wake up the next morning when they may be sold out. You will have to register with the site before hand and I would suggest a dummy run so you are set when you get in the on line ticket queue at 1 or so in the morning.

What Jane said. Registering advance and practice navigating the website ahead of time. Then go online right at the appointed time, whatever it is where you live ( for us it was midnight, so not too bad). And be prepared to grab seats from what is offered----looking at the seating charts ahead of time helps. But be prepared to see a limited selection---most of the really good seats are already held by season ticket subscribers. None of our preferred. Notices were available, and we ended up with a box on the side, up front---actually above the stage. It was fine.

I don't know if it is true for La Scala but for the Paris opera which we have bought on line many times, the cheapest tickets are simply not sold on line. They go to locals who line up the day they are available and the cheaper tickets on line tend to go quickly.
