La Scala Opera Tickets

Has anyone purchased tickets to see an opera at La Scala in Milan? I want to get tickets for 23 July and am wondering if it's too early. I've played around with La Scala's website, but it doesn't seem to function properly. I'd love any information you have regarding how you obtained tickets.

Thanks!

Years ago there were, sometimes, day of performance tickets sold, usually in the sky-high section. I don't know if they still do that, it depends on whether they have tickets left, impossible to know except through them.

Tickets generally go on sale two months before a performance and sell out quickly. I forget exactly when they are closed for the summer, probably in August but that could also be part of the problem, there is a possibility that they are closed by late July. As I said, this is La Scala after all and tickets are hard to get.

I tried calling the automated booking line and was told that there were 11 tickets available. The cheapest was for 66 Euros.

I've looked online where it says only 5 Stall (204 Euros) tickets are available

Does anyone know if all tickets have been released and there are really only 11 or 5 available? Why the discrepency?

We will be in Milan on 25/6 and could stop by the box office to try to get tickets for 22/7. Is this wise or should we go ahead and book the ones available through the phone.

Kristen, we've been to La Scala a few times; Certainly an incredible experience. The first time we were living in the States and booked on-line through their website. Yes, it sells out quickly and seats are extremely limited - there are many season pass holders and apparently "corporate or embassy seats" always reserved! We got the last two seats in the nosebleed - loved it and swore we'd go back... with better seats.

Two or three years ago we did exactly what Kent suggests and picked up tickets on the day of the performance - totally on a lark. We could not believe seats were available and scrambled to find clothes to wear! We actually had better seats (I guess given our first-run anything had to be better!).

But as Kent says, that was the luck of the draw and NOT something we planned or counted on. If you really want to go, you may have to bite the bullet... WE DID our first time, but again, money well spent!

Ciao,
Ron

Our big wow for Italy is going to La Scala. Their website is www.teatroallscala.org. On that site they tell you when tickets go on sale for each show. Unfortunately, the La Boheme tickets went on sale on the 7th of May. We were up at 2:45am our time to buy the tickets. After almost 45 mins. with the website going down a few times we got our tickets, but only a handful were available within a few hours. Try the day of performance, or try to arrange a tour of the opera house. The contact person for a tour is

Francine Garino
Museo Teatrale alla Scala
tel: 02.88792154
fax: 02.88792090
garino@fondazionelascala.it

They do not arrange tours until about 2 weeks before your date and do tours in Italian, French, and English. The tours would be scheduled Mon-Sat 9.00-12.00 and 13.30 - 17.00 when the building is available. Good Luck!

Thanks to you all for your help. I called yesterday and got two tickets. We got box tickets for 66 Euros. I'm sure they'll be pretty far away, but I'm very excited!
