La Fenice Opera Tickets

I've been online on the La Fenice website. I keep getting the message that the website is insecure. Also, they are requesting my passport number to buy tickets. Can anyone recommend a safe way to purchase tickets for the opera at La Fenice in Venice?
Thanks!
Anne

I've bought them there, albeit a few years ago. Passport info is required for all major Italian events. You can't get into a soccer match without a passport or national ID card. They want to know who is attending these big events for security reasons.

I'm going to Barber of Seville at Teatro La Fenice in early June and, yes, I had to give my passport number. I don't remember getting any warnings about the site being insecure.

I would not worry about putting passport info on the website. It is not a path to ID theft. As for the "non secure" warning you received, what kind of computer and browswe are you using? On my iPad, which is very security conscious, I have not received that notification.

Yeah I had to send my passport to buy tickets at La Scala also. Weird, but normal. Nobody can do anything with that number really, so I wouldn't worry. All the hotels will ask for it too.

I had to give my passport number for Secret Itineraries Tour in Venice. It threw me for a moment, but I guess it's SOP for many ticket purchases in Europe.

Anne,
We recently purchased tickets to La Fenice for a Sept. performance of La Traviata. The only problem I encountered was getting repeatedly booted out of the system when it came time to pay. After a call to the fine folks at my credit card company I got that taken care of.

I wouldn't worry about the passport. It's actually a safety measure that should make you feel more secure. Remember, they've had decades more experience dealing with terrorists than we have. If they are checking passport numbers they can flag suspicious patrons long before your performance.

Sometimes a website will trigger a warning on one browser but not another. So, try a different browser if you're having trouble.
