We will be in Italy in September, 2012 and will spend one day in the Abruzzo region. I would love to visit L'Aquila but I can't find any information on whether it is advisable to visit after the 2009 earthquake. The last news report I saw was dated a year ago and the reporter indicated that he was denied entry to the town by a police officer on duty, and that most of the townspeople are still homeless. Has anything changed? Is it advisable to bypass this area altogether?
