does anyone have information/recommendations about (i) kosher restaurants in Rome, (ii) shopping for kosher food in Rome (for self-catering) ?
I would imagine the best place is the Jewish Ghetto which is right in the historical center. Lots of Kosher places there, including a McDonald's type place and a few delicious-looking (and smelling) bakeries. Be careful though, not every place there is kosher (I had a dish with pancetta in the ghetto...oops :)). Also there are lots of shops with beautiful works of art, such as mezuzot, torah accessories, menorahs, etc.
While you are there you should definitely explore the area and take a tour of the Synagogue, very fascinating building (as is the whole area really)! I can't personally recommend any specific places because I don't keep Kosher, so maybe someone else can help with that :) but make sure you try "carciofi alla giudea" - Roman-Jewish-style artichokes that are served whole and deep fried..... and really delicious!

We enjoyed Giggettos restaurant in the Jewish Quarter located next to ruins--Teatro Marcello if I remember correctly. The atmosphere is fun(terrace dining available) and we especially liked the fried artichokes and squash blossoms. Look for other options in the Testaccio area.
I stumbled across a listing on tripadvisor for a b&b in Rome, that, if I'm remembering correctly, is kosher. If you look on the TA website, they are very close to the top-rated b&b. You might want to ccontact them for more information.
