Know a good Venice Pension?

My wife and I are going to be in Venice for 2 or 3 days in late July (honeymoon). I am trying to find a nice but simple Pension. We won't have a car so a place near the city center would be nice. We don't need a big hotel. We prefer something simple and more line with the Venice atmosphere. And, of course we would like to keep the cost down. Any ideas??? And thank you very much for your feed back. I have used this helpline before and people have been very helpful. Thanks

We stayed at Hotel San Maurizio last spring and found it far less expensive than most place in town and it suited our simple requirements. Nothing fancy but I would certainly go there again.

It's hard to beat Pensione Guerrato. We've stayed there twice and absolutely love it. Search this site for more on it.

Pensione La Calcina, on the Giudecca Canal a bit away from the hubbub of the Rialto Bridge area, has nice siimple rooms with parquet floors and wroght-iron bedsteads. Nothing ornate, but still very Venetian.

They have a rooftop terrace that you can reserve for private use. Book it to be up there at sunset. Walk up the Zattere (canalside walksay) to the little store Billa and buy a bottle of wine and some antipasti to enjoy up there. It's one of the most romantic things we did in Venice.

In '06 we stayed at the Domus Ciliota which was an old restored monastery: info@ciliota.it it's off the Campo Santo Stefano Square 1/2 way between the Piazza San Marco and the Rialto Bridge. Cars are not alloted in Venice. It was only 105Euros at that time with breakfast and our own private bath.
