KLM, Delta or Air France

Flying from Orlando to northern Italy (Milan, Verona, Bologna, Venice). I have an Air France flight that I need to change so need to stay with either Air France, KLM or Delta. Which do you prefer for an economy long haul?

If anyone is using the new Airbus A380, go with them. Second, it's easier if you can change planes in Amsterdam rather than CDG. After that, they are all pretty much the same in economy.

Delta, KLM and Air France are code share partners. You could be ticketed Delta and fly Air France or KLM. And KLM has a regional KLM CityHopper that serves the smaller airports.

My preference is to avoid connecting through CDG. All things equal I would connect through AMS. And my American ears understand Dutch spoken English better than French spoken English. But all of that is just personal preference.

AirFrance-KLM is the same company. Part of the Sky Team alliance like Delta.
However none of the above fly directly from MCO to Europe, therefore you'll have no choice but go via ATL or JFK with a Delta operated flight directly to MXP or VCE. Any other choice via CDG or AMS with Air France-KLM makes no sense in your case, because it will add one lay over to your journey and greatly prolong your trip. Alitalia is also part of Sky Team, therefore if you fly via JFK it is possible that the JFK-MXP leg is operated by Alitalia (both Delta and Alitalia fly the JFK-MXP segment). Only Delta flies to Venice from JFK (or ATL in summer).

While KLM and Air France are part of the same corporation, the are operated as distinct airlines. But that said, they and Delta are intertwined. My 2013 trip to VCE from Oregon was booked/ticketed by Delta.

Outbound I had a KLM flight operated by Horizon to SEA, KLM flight to AMS operated by Delta, KLM to VCE.

Return was an Air France VCE to CDG, Air France operated by Delta to SEA, then Alaska to Medford.

I am with Bets. The Air France A380 is incredible if you can get it. It is worth the extra cost to upgrade to Economy Plus as it is very comfortable and not that much more than Economy.

Agreed that Amsterdam Schipol is a nicer airport for either a connection or a layover than Paris CDG.

Well Patrick. You have heard from everybody that AMS Schipol is easier to navigate and make connection than CDG. Unfortunately that info is totally useless to you because coming from MCO your only option with Delta ( or sky team partner) is actually to connect in ATL or JFK for a flight from there to Italy.
But at least now you know that Paris CDG is to huge to be an easy connection. Maybe you can use that info in a future trip.

I like Air France followed by Delta with KLM in third. It's been a little while since I've flown Air France, but I recall the seats seemed more comfortable and the food was better. Delta has pretty decent in-flight entertainment and will give you the most options out of the southeast. KLM is OK in flight but I have had problems with check-in on previous flights. You may just want to pick the flight that best fits your travel plans with the most reasonable layover/price. One note - if you connect through Atlanta they have a new interational terminal that is quite nice.

I agree with Rob - Air France, then Delta, then KLM. Personally I prefer flying through CDG rather than Amsterdam, but I haven't had a long layover at CDG. The Economy Plus seats are worth the extra leg room, too.

Agree with Rob and Jean, but haven't been on KLM for decades. However, the Economy Premier on AF is 500 more than Economy round trip because it is a true class upgrade between Economy and Business. On Delta, Economy Comfort is simply a little more leg room and seat recline and much cheaper, about 140-200 more round trip.

Air France is my top choice. The food is great, service attentive and economy seats are adequate, although by no means comfortable for that long, long flight over the water. We've always selected our seats & chosen by the window not so much to see anything but rather to have just two seats together without anyone right next to us. Have a great tip!

Singapore airlines is the best.
You could fly from Orlando to LAX then from there to Singapore and lastly to Italy.
But you are looking for a quicker trip with Delta (or Delta partner) YOUR ONLY OPTION is still Delta via either ATL or JFK. That is:
MCO > JFK > MXP (or VCE)
or
MCO > ATL > MXP (or VCE) Summer seasonal only.

Using Air France or KLM via CDG or AMS does not work well for you because neither flies to Orlando (Singapore Airlines doesn't either, but you might like to know it's the best).
