Klagenfurt Austria TO Venice, Italy--HELP!!

I leave for two glorious weeks in August, and I plan on spending a week in each country. Any and all advice for how to get from Austria to Italy, hostels and inns to stay & what's worth seeing along the way would be greatly appreciated since this is my first time to either country!! Thank you!

Are you driving? Because if not it's four hours on a bus. Should be a train according to my train map, but bahn.de says a bus.

Adrieanne, As the previous reply indicated, travel from Klagenfurt to Venice is often by Bus. Check the bahn.de website for more information on the departure times and other details. Using an arbitrary departure date, I found one departure at 10:10, arriving in Venice at 14:40. There are no changes on that route, but a 15-minute walk at the end to reach Venezia Santa Lucia station. From there you can board a Vaporetto to your Hotel. For information on Hostels or budget Hotels and "what's worth seeing", I'd suggest having a look at the RS Guidebooks for both countries. They contain a wealth of information! As you'll be travelling in August (PEAK travel season), I would HIGHLY recommend pre-booking your accommodations! Are you planning to stay exclusively in Hostels, or would budget Hotels be an option? You might consider taking out an inexpensive membership in HI Hostels, as that will provide preferred booking and slightly better rates. I've found their properties to be well run, and fairly consistent from one location to another. They appear to have two properties in Klagenfurt and one in Venice. If this is your first trip to Europe, reading Europe Through The Back Door would also be a really good idea. Happy travels!

I will definitely check out HI Hostels & bahn.de (although my German is pretty weak, I'm sure I can figure it out) Thank you so much for responding. Europe is going to be a blast!

Adrieanne, The bahn.de website has an English-language option. As I recall, the language selecction tab is in one of the upper corners. That's the German Rail website, and they have reliable information for trains all over Europe. For rail information in Italy, you could also check the www.trenitalia.com website (I believe it has an English option also - I just use Italian so have never checked).
