Has anyone used a Kindle Fire overseas?
Yes! Mine has worked completely fine in Italy, France and England. Just connect to the local wifi and everything is just like you are in the USA. Cheers!
How are you recharging it? Everything I read says I shouldn't use the converters as a method for charging. When I asked about a charger at the stores, they all said to use the converter.
Most all electronics these days (including the Fire) are able to handle all voltages worldwide. So all you need is an adapter plug. They are on-sale at this site for only $1.00 Click the Travel Store tab above.
Mike, We had some adapters that we plugged into the walls and plugged our lamps into them when we lived in Germany. Are you saying the Kindle Fire will work the same way? I know our converter says it is not recommended for any type of computer device.
Anne, you do not need to convert voltage. You just have to have a way to get the plug to go into the wall. So all you need is an adapter that will accept the American plug and go into an Italian outlet. Somewhere on the device (or perhaps on its power cord) you will find some very small print that includes the words "110-240V"; that is an indication that it will work without a converter either in the US (110v) or in Europe (220-240v).
Thanks to everyone!
Hi Anne, I am in Italy right now and am using my Kindle Fire. Use the $1.00 adapter from Rick's Travel Store. It works just like in the USA. Ethel
Even though it's not a Fire, it's similar. I have an ipad that when I travel (I was in China/Thailand last year) as long as I was on wifi I used it beautifully. We skyped, face-timed, facebooked (except in China where they blocked it) and had no problems.....except when I left my regular kindle on the ferry boat from Hong Kong to Mainland China :(
