Will be traveling with kids (7/4) to Rome in December. Would like to do tour of above sites to get the most of the visit. Thinking of splurging on a private tour if anyone has ideas of a good kid friendly guide. Or recomendation for good group tour. The kids are good on tours, but...they are still kids :) Thanks!
We traveled with a 13 and 14 year old. We used the RS audio Tours and a book called "Rome then and Now" which has plastic overlays so you can see how things used to look. It worked great and we could tour at our own pace. The books are available used on Amazon, or at any street vendor in Italy.
I don't know that I'd go the formal tour route with children of those ages. I have five boys myself, ranging in age from 13 down to 3 and will likely be in Rome with the oldest two in September. We may hook up with a tour, but I'd be just as content to go the route Margaret described. If I had my younger set with me, I'd certainly go the informal route on our own rather than commit to a private tour.
