We will be staying in Orvieto for 5 days in May and will have our 7 year old with us. Does anyone have any suggestions for kids activities in this town? Thanks
It depends on the 7 year old's interests and temperment, and also whether boy or girl, but a couple ideas for Orvieto are:
1) Climb down inside St. Patrick's Well.
2) Climb up inside the Torre del Moro. It's fun (and loud) to bee inside when the clock goes off!
3) Run around the city park near the funicular station.
4) Go to the Museo Claudia Faina (across the piazza from the Duomo). The Etruscan pottery might be boring but the rotating coins are neat. Push a button to rotate the display so you can see the back side of the coins.
5) If you have a take-charge 7 year old, let him/her control the route and give directions. It's hard to get permanently lost in Orvieto since it's small, and we enjoyed the time we spent wandering around and not paying attention to the map.
6) If you're there on a Saturday morning, explore the street market near the Piazza del Popolo.
And of course, eat gelato! :-)
If you're willing to drive a bit, I would check out Bomarzo (about 1/2 hour straight south of Orvieto) to see their "monster gardens". Check out this link http://www.romeartlover.it/Bomarzo.html
