I came back from our family vacation to Rome, Florence, and Sorrento. It was an amazing one I feel proud to have planned the entire 2 weeks on my own with of course help from all of you who post regularly on the Helpline. So I thank you all. It was extremely hot and humid. But it was worth every drop of sweat!! It was very easy to travel by local transportation and without a doubt RS books and downloads of various tourist attractions made it extremely easy, enjoyable. Everything was going great until the morning we were to leave Sorrento for Rome. For some reason at the last minute we had changed our plans on the timings of the train we were going to take from Naples to Rome. But in our mind we were thinking of the later train as originally planned. We had already booked the tickets. Half way from Sorrento to Naples in the car I saw the ticket and realised we had booked for the earlier train and we had missed it! We were upset at our stupidity and figured 176 Euros had gone down the drain. At the Naples Station we went up to the information booth to see if anything could be done and showed the official the ticket and he said we had missed the train and he did something on the computer changed our tickets and asked us to take the train which was to leave in 15 mins. That's it! We didn't have to pay anything!! I couldn't believe it! Moral of the story is to check your tickets thoroughly way before and secondly doesn't hurt to ask officials when in doubt. I'm already planning my next vacation to Italy. Ciao!
Fessing up can go a long way...I'm glad THAT worked out. They probably find honesty to be VERY refreshing!
Isn't it neat to have planned the whole thing yourself (with some acknowledged help, of course)?!?
So, where are you going to next?!? ;-)
Thanks for sharing! Leaving Oct.1 for my first Italy trip and am so excited. Glad it worked out for you with your train ticket.
Mary, I liked Positano, Tuscany, Amalfi Coast...
I liked Italy!! One thing I must emphasize is please travel light. Especially in July/August when it is hot and humid one sweats a lot and as such you have to do laundry at least in 4/5 days. It is easy to find a Laundry place everywhere. In Positano we were there just for a day but we saw a couple checking out of a hotel which was close to the beach with 2 huge bags. They were really struggling to carry the suitcases up the steep street as I don't think there was a way for cars to come down below.
