Just back from 18 days in Rome & Amalfi Coast

any questions I can help answer? Spent 10 days in Rome then headed to base of of Sorrento for a visit to Pompeii. I didn't go to to Capri while on the Amalfi coast and I used the Monetti's taxi service to get down the coast and spent a night in Paestum before heading back to Rome to fly out for Seattle. :)

I don't have any specific questions, but as I love both Rome and the Amalfi coast, I would be very interested in hearing more about your trip especially since you did not jump from place to place. Was this your first time in Italy? How did 10 days in Rome work out? Where did you stay? Can you share some details of your hotels? Were there any stand out dining experiences? Any places or experiences you would recommend? If you could share any costs of meals or hotels, that would be very helpful. Is there anything you would do differently or that you would not do again.
Thanks

In Sorrento we stayed at Hotel Mignon. It is in a perfect position just right off the main street where at night they block the cars and everyone goes for a walk down the streets! We could duck in and stuff off during the day or take a nap and wake up refreshed for the late afternoon & evening. No view really but our room was on the 2nd floor and overlooked a orchard with figs and citrus trees and lovely blue/purple morning glories and also a view of the school soccer field which filled up with local kids playing well into the evening. That's a good view for me anyway! Their A/C is amazing- nice and chilly coming in from the humid & hot weather and the cool blue tiles on the floor are lovely. All in all a very nice place to stay- not a lot of frills, but a light breakfast is included and a nice comfortable room. In Sorrento we relaxed 2 days (swimming at Leonelli's Beach and sleeping in, shopping etc) and the third we went to Pompeii via the Circumvesuviana. That was perfect after a whirlwind 10 days in Rome where we covered the Vatican Museum, the National Rome Museum, the Pantheon, the night walk thru Rome, Ostia Antica, the Colosseum, the Forum, the Palatine Hill, the Mamertine Prison, walking the Appia Antica on Sunday, touring the catacombs- San Callisto while shopping and munching our way through the days. We were fortunate/unfortunate enough to be gifted Marriott Point from my mom for our stay in Rome, so to the biggest bang for the points we stayed at the Courtyard Rome Cental Park Marriott...which required a transfer from the train to the A or B line depending on where we were headed. Nice hotel...just don't plan on going back during the day since it took about 40 min to get into old city Rome. It worked for us..but boy it was nice to have a close in hotel in Sorrento. I'm running out of room so I'll do another post with more answers in a bit!

We used La Mammola Car Service (Salvatore Collina) to drive us from Naples train station to Pompeii (waited with our bags for 2 hours), and on to our hotel in Positano. He was prompt, friendly, but above all, a careful driver on the Amalfi coast roads. We also hired him for a 4 hour ride and tour of Amalfi and Ravello, and were just as happy with his services and his competitive prices. (39 338 5451697; www.lamammola.com).
